I really have come to enjoy Alex Boye's music and love listening to him. I found this video that talks a little about his life and his conversion. I felt this is something worth sharing.

Lillian Afton Grames Urbanik

My Great Grandma Lillian Afton Grames Urbanik passed away January 8, 2014. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to be able to know this wonderful women. Not very many people get the chance to know their great grandparents. But I have had the opportunity to know her and her husband my Great Grandpa Albert George Urbanik (he passed away in 2008). She was was 90 years old. She will be missed.

EAST CARBON - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Lillian Grames Urbanik, age 90, returned to Our Heavenly Father on Jan. 8, 2014.

She was born in the Price City Hall Building on Nov. 9, 1923 to Arthur Joseph and Christina Christensen Grames.

Married her sweetheart, Albert George "Slim" Urbanik, April 5, 1941 in Price; their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on April 5, 1990. He passed away Oct. 16, 2008.

Lillian was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as Primary President for years. While serving as Primary President she conducted thefirst meeting in the newly built chapel in East Carbon. She was a staunch supporter of her community while serving as a 4-H and a Cub Scout leader. For years, she worked as an Avon representative while helping support her family.

Lillian loved quilting, sewing and crocheting. She loved going fishing, and most of the time they would complain that she caught more fish than anyone else. Lillian was a grandmother to all and she loved to play board and card games with the grandkids. Mom loved cooking, quilting, sewing, and crocheting. Each of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren received a baby afghan and quilt made by her She received great joy in being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout the years. Mom's favorite gift was a new crossword puzzle book for any occasion. She loved learning new things and, read the newspaper everyday doing the crossword puzzle in ink.

Survived by three sons and two daughters, Albert George (Mary) Urbanik, Jr., Orangelake, Fla., Teresa (Charles) Hayman, Poway, Calif., John (Barbara) Urbanik, Rangely, Colo., Christina (Howard) Webb, Rio Rico, Ariz., Andrew (Tina) Urbanik, East Carbon; son-in-law, Bill Potter, Price; daughters-in-law, Laverna Urbanik, Tempe, Ariz. and Vicki Urbanik of Stansbury Park;sisters and brothers, Marie Lutz, Las Vegas, Nev., Clyde (Betty) Grames, Saratoga Springs, Alan (Sandy) Grames, Indiana, Beatrice (Doc) Dockery, St. George, Floyd (Louise) Gorley, East Carbon; 30 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Lillian will be welcomed home by her parents, husband, Albert; sons, Albert George Urbanik III and Joseph Urbanik; daughter, Frances "Fran" Potter; grandsons, Johnny Urbanik and Albert George Urbanik, IV; and sister, Beulah Heath.

Funeral service, Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, 11 a.m., East Carbon LDS Ward. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street, Price) Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. and at the church Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery, Price. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Lillian online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net 

Christmas!

I know that this post is long over due but like I said before life has kind of been crazy. To start of the Christmas season the Highland South puts on a Family Christmas Hymn Sing. Which includes a multi faith choir. This year my dad and I both sang in that choir. This year for Christmas we all went to my Grandma Kay's house for Christmas Eve. Usually Christmas Eve we have a prime rib dinner. This year grandma made a ham and twice baked potatoes. Not one of my most favorite meals. My Grandma actually ended up being sick Christmas Eve so it was kind of a laid back night where we eat opened our presents and really didn't stay at her house very long. Then Christmas Day it was just my siblings and parents. The best part about this Christmas is that Nate was home this year. My mom was so crazy busy with school and finals that this year she gave each of us money and told us to go by our own Christmas presents but we had to wrap them and put them under the tree. If you know me I hate surprise and usually know what I am getting each year anyways so I had no problem buying my own presents.  This year it was great just spending time with our family and not feeling like we were too rushed. The day after Christmas we did my mom's side of the family Christmas party. The last couple of years they have gone tubing up at Solider Summit. Me not being the huge fan of playing in the snow as I don't really like being cold just hung out in the lodge with my dad. Then we came back to our house had some dinner and played games. The one game that we always end up playing it happy family. It is one of my cousins favorite games. It was great being able to see my cousins who live in California that we usually only get to see during the summer and then at Christmas time.

Still here!

I am still here. I know that I haven't posted since October but life has just been crazy and had many adventures. I have a second blog that I am posting on more often. It is one where I am sharing conference talks and songs and what I love about being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  the link for that blog is iamawitnessofjesuschrist.blogpsot.com. I will still post here periodically but I will probably mostly just post trips and big events that have happened.

Boston!

 

My dad had some lectures in Boston and my mom and I tagged along. We left Thursday 24th and came home Monday the 28th. My dad only had lectures on Friday for two hours so the rest of the time was spent just playing in Boston.

 

We got to go on "Old Ironsides" the USS Constitution. It is still an active war ship today. One of the levels of the ship was really low and we had to duck really low. It was one of my favorite things that we did in Boston. (hence all the photos of it)

 

We went to Georgetown Cupcakes. This is one of the many locations. The main one is in DC and was on TLC's DC Cupcakes. When I found out they had a location in Boston I wanted to go. They are some pretty good cupcakes. I had a red velvet cupcake.

We also went into Paul Revere's home. He and his first wife had eight children. She did while giving birth to the 8th. He then remarried and he and his second wife had 8 children. He had 16 children in this house. I am not sure how they all fit (there may have been some rooms we couldn't go into in the loft).

As it was the World Series while we were there most of the statues were wearing Boston Red Sock uniforms and beards. This is the statue of Paul Revere.

 

This is the Holocaust Monument. It is in the middle of the street. It has thousands of names etched on it. I believe it has vents from the subway under each one that when it is cold outside the heat fogs them up(don't quote me on the subway being under it.)

 

This is the Trinity Church that is located near Copley Square. It is a beautiful old church. It has the most amazing stain glass windows. They have one of Christ's resurrection that is amazing. From the outside I think it looks like it could be a really old mansion.

Taking a break!

So recently I decided that I was going to delete my facebook account. My goal is to make it for a year without facebook and if at that year mark I don't mind not having it then I won't get it back. I just got sick of always feeling like I had to check it, be on it or make a post. I couldn't always come up with something to say so I felt it was becoming a waste of my time. Sometimes it is good just to unplug yourself and come up with new things to do.

Welcome home Nathaniel Allen Ensign!

 I know that I am about two weeks late posting this but life has been crazy. August 14 Elder Nathaniel Allen Ensign returned home from serving an honorable mission in the Jackson Mississippi Mission. At the airport to welcome him home were my parents, my sisters and our brother-in-law. Nate had only met him twice on skype before coming home. I knew that when I saw Nate that I would probably start crying. I never would of guessed that I would cry as hard as I did. 

  It was pretty funny because when people come down the escalator you can't really see their heads until a certain point. So we would see dress pants start coming down and we would think is that Nate. Then we would see that it was a short and large belly man or a woman. When I  finally did see Him all I got out was there's Nate and I just started crying really hard.

 We only got to have four days with him before he had to leave to go down to Dixie. Most of the time was spent trying to get him ready to leave again. Thursday, Mom, Dad, Shelby, Nate and I all went to the temple and did a session together. It really was great being able to be there with most of my family. It was pretty bad when Nate went to go shopping for some clothes for school and the whole family went with. I just wanted to spend as much time with him as I could. Since we didn't have much time with him before he left, I sometimes forget that he is even home.
