Lillian Afton Grames Urbanik


My Great Grandma Lillian Afton Grames Urbanik passed away January 8, 2014. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to be able to know this wonderful women. Not very many people get the chance to know their great grandparents. But I have had the opportunity to know her and her husband my Great Grandpa Albert George Urbanik (he passed away in 2008). She was was 90 years old. She will be missed.

EAST CARBON - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Lillian Grames Urbanik, age 90, returned to Our Heavenly Father on Jan. 8, 2014.
She was born in the Price City Hall Building on Nov. 9, 1923 to Arthur Joseph and Christina Christensen Grames.
Married her sweetheart, Albert George "Slim" Urbanik, April 5, 1941 in Price; their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on April 5, 1990. He passed away Oct. 16, 2008.
Lillian was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as Primary President for years. While serving as Primary President she conducted thefirst meeting in the newly built chapel in East Carbon. She was a staunch supporter of her community while serving as a 4-H and a Cub Scout leader. For years, she worked as an Avon representative while helping support her family.
Lillian loved quilting, sewing and crocheting. She loved going fishing, and most of the time they would complain that she caught more fish than anyone else. Lillian was a grandmother to all and she loved to play board and card games with the grandkids. Mom loved cooking, quilting, sewing, and crocheting. Each of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren received a baby afghan and quilt made by her She received great joy in being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout the years. Mom's favorite gift was a new crossword puzzle book for any occasion. She loved learning new things and, read the newspaper everyday doing the crossword puzzle in ink.
Survived by three sons and two daughters, Albert George (Mary) Urbanik, Jr., Orangelake, Fla., Teresa (Charles) Hayman, Poway, Calif., John (Barbara) Urbanik, Rangely, Colo., Christina (Howard) Webb, Rio Rico, Ariz., Andrew (Tina) Urbanik, East Carbon; son-in-law, Bill Potter, Price; daughters-in-law, Laverna Urbanik, Tempe, Ariz. and Vicki Urbanik of Stansbury Park;sisters and brothers, Marie Lutz, Las Vegas, Nev., Clyde (Betty) Grames, Saratoga Springs, Alan (Sandy) Grames, Indiana, Beatrice (Doc) Dockery, St. George, Floyd (Louise) Gorley, East Carbon; 30 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Lillian will be welcomed home by her parents, husband, Albert; sons, Albert George Urbanik III and Joseph Urbanik; daughter, Frances "Fran" Potter; grandsons, Johnny Urbanik and Albert George Urbanik, IV; and sister, Beulah Heath.
Funeral service, Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, 11 a.m., East Carbon LDS Ward. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street, Price) Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. and at the church Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery, Price.
