Today will be all about my traveling to Scotland and the adventure that was. I left for Scotland on May 16. It started out with my flight being delayed from Salt Lake to New York due to the weather in New York. I finally got on my way about 30 minutes later then I was scheduled for.
We made it to JFK in New York and I walked really quickly from one gate to the other. I had been told that I should take the shuttle but I was looking at signs and couldn't see anything about a shuttle to the gate I needed to get too. Thankful I made it to that gate in plenty of time.
My flight was delayed leaving New York cause of the weather for about 45 minutes and then we finally were on our way to London. I must say they don't really make planes for us tall people and it was not really the most comfortable flight. Everyone is sleeping around me and I could not sleep. I had tried to take some benadryl to help me fall asleep but it didn't work. Part of the problem is that I am a side sleeper and can't sleep on my back. On an airplane you can't really sleep on your side all the great.
In JFK I had met a girl who was headed to Edinburgh to visit some of her friends that lived there going to school. We both had the same connecting flight from London so we decided that we would meet up when we got to London. I am truly grateful that we had met as when we did make it to London we missed our connecting flight.
What happened was that we had landed in London on time but they had a plane in our gate and so we sat out on the tarmack forever before we actually got to a gate. Due to this we missed our connecting flight to London. I of course was trying to figure out how I was going to let Rachel know that I was delayed as my phone had died on the flight from JFK to London. Thankfully the London airport had an option to charge your phone with a usb plugin. I was able to get my phone charged enough to send her a message on facebook letting her know that I was delayed.
While we were waiting for our next flight (thankful only had to wait an hour) an airport employee came up and asked us some questions about our experience with the London Hethrow airport. I had said that we had missed our connecting flight to which she said that was the airlines fault and not theirs. But after she left I was thinking about it and it was their fault that we missed out flight because they didn't have a gate open for us to go into.
After just an hour and a half flight I made it to Edinburgh where Rachel's husband Rob and their Bishop picked me up and took me to Stirling where I would be staying. I will tell more about my first day in Stirling in another post.
