Alfie Boe, Tom Brokaw and the Mormon Tabernacle choir!

Last night I got to go to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert with special guests: Alfie Boe and Tom Brokaw. It was by far my favorite one that I have been to. Alfie has the most amazing voice.
He sang Bring Him Home from Les Meserable. It was incredible. I think that should of been the last song cause then they jumped right into an upbeat song.

this is not from the concert from last night but I found him singing this song so you could hear it.

They told this story of Gail Halverson last night.

Operation Little Vittles

Gail Halvorsen in Berlin 1983
Shortly before landing at the Tempelhof airport in the American sector of Berlin, Halvorsen would drop candy attached to parachutes to children below. This action, which was dubbed Operation Little Vittles and sparked similar efforts by other crews, was the source of the popular name for the pilots: the candy bombers. Halvorsen had wanted to help raise the morale of the children during the time of uncertainty and privation.
Halvorsen started by giving a few treats to children watching the planes from outside the Tempelhof base. Wanting to give more, he promised to drop more candy from his plane the next day. Because the planes would arrive nearly every three minutes, the children naturally couldn't distinguish his aircraft from the others. However, Halvorsen promised to wiggle the wings to identify himself, which led to his nickname "Onkel Wackelflügel" ("Uncle Wiggly Wings"). The other American candy bombers became known as the Rosinenbombers (Raisin Bombers). Halvorsen's initiative drew the attention of the operation's commanding officer, Lieutenant General William H. Tunner, who approved of it and ordered it expanded into Operation Little Vittles.
The operation was soon noticed by the press and gained widespread attention. A wave of public support led to donations which enabled Halvorsen and his crew to drop 850 pounds of candy. By the end of the airlift, around 25 plane crews had dropped 23 tons of chocolate, chewing gum, and other candies over various places in Berlin. The Confectioners Association of America donated large amounts to the effort, and American school children cooperated in attaching the candies to parachutes. (taken from Wikipedia)

After telling his story and introducing him they dropped parachutes with candy from the ceiling. It was so cool to watch them come floating down. Tom Brokaw interviewed him up on stage. He is now 92 and still moving around without a problem. He was such a cute little old man.

I went to the concert with My Aunt Leanna, Uncle Clark, Grandma Kay, cousin's: Melissa, Trevor, Tom and his wife Brooke. we were about ten rows back from the front. I have never sat down on the floor before. Elder Nelson was two rows in front of me and Elder Hales was two behind me.  Elder Oaks was in the same row as me. I have never been so near to so many apostles.

We got to go through the tunnels under the Conference center on carts. After we got back to where we had parked we were standing around talking to Elder Ballard and His wife. (Elder Ballard is my uncle Clark's dad). Elder Oaks and his wife were there also. Elder L. Tom Perry is the funniest man. We were all standing there and he tells the security guard at the desk that He should charge us rent if we stayed any longer. To which I replied I  was leaving cause I couldn't afford my own rent. When he walked past me he also playful hit me in the shoulder with his fist.  I am so glad my aunt had an extra ticket so that I could go.

Reed Gunnar Spjut

So on December 5th it has been twelve years since my grandpa Reed Gunnar Spjut died. I only knew him for six years as he and my grandma were married in 1994. Even though we were step grandkids he never made me feel as if I wasn't important to him. He loved just as he did his other grandkids.
I remember one time we were down in Cowpuncher. Grandma and Grandpa were forest rangers down there every summer. We would go stay in this cabin there. I remember one year we were down there around my birthday. I had gotten the Nancy doll that would talk. I remember one morning while down there Grandpa had to go check the gates to make sure none of the cows would get out. It was just he and I (I of course was carrying my Nancy doll in a carrier I had gotten.) going down to check on the cows. I also remember that they always had Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream in their freezer as that was Grandpa's favorite ice cream. That is also my favorite ice cream and was very happy to have something in common with Grandpa.

I remember at Christmas time he would always setup his train and we would just sit there and play with it. I remember it would start on one wall by the fire place and turn on to another wall and go around the Christmas Tree.

I loved my Grandpa Reed. He was the Grandpa that I always wanted and needed. They lived in Salt Lake and so we would often be at their house. We were sealed to my Grandpa Reed after he had passed. I guess they always planned to do it but never got to it before he died. I am so thankful for the sealing power and that I get to have my Grandpa Reed be a part of my life forever.

I know that now it has been twelve years and I am starting to forget what he looked like. But I will always remember that day in cowpuncher, how much he loved me and how much he loved my Grandma.

Below is his obituary. I was hoping there would be a picture with it also but no such luck. But it will be nice to have this so that I can always remember the man that he was.

His hand in all things!

so I have decided to recap everything that I have done this year. I thought it would be fitting to look back at everything I have done and see how the Savior was a part of each of them.

February- I was in my first car accident. I know that Heavenly Father was watching over me that day and helped keep me from being injuried seriously. I was also offered a full time position at my work.

March- I received my endowments. Just being able to go to the temple and complete the work for my family. Not only to I get to feel my Savior and Heavenly Fathers love but I get to complete the work my ancestors that I have found and it has more meaning to me.

May- I dislocated my knee while hiking. I was lucky to have priesthood holders with me who could give me a blessing of comfort. I also know that Heavenly Father and my Savior were aware of me and that it would be a stressful and anxious experience for me. Because of the blessing of comfort I was able to stay calm. I am also very lucky that i didn't break anything or have to have my knee reset.

June- There was an opening in the apartment that I live in now. Moving to Salt Lake (even though I never dreamed I would live up here) is where I have felt the most at home and not like I have to go home every weekend. I am happy and content. Heavenly Father knows everything that I need in my life before it happens. He loves and cares about every little part of my life.

If we take the time out of our busy lives to step back and look at everything that has happened in our lives then we can notice God's hand in every part of it. I am so thankful to be able to have His guidance in my life.

The Reason for the Season!

 The Reason for the Season
By: Lonestar

The shepherds are lit
A star in the sky
On the outskirts of town
A new baby cries
No room at the end
No crib to be found
Oh but look at him now

He is the reason for the season
He is the light that shines on our lives
The baby Jesus born in God's grace
So we all might rejoice on this day
He is the reason for the season

It is a time for presents and toys
Tales of Saint Nick
Tidings of joy
As we celebrate the miracle birth
Oh right here on this earth

He is the reason for the season
He is the light that shines on our lives
The baby Jesus born in God's grace
So we all might rejoice on this day
He is the reason for the season

He's the reason for the giving
The joy thats never ending
That comes on Christmas morning in the eyes of a child
It's what it means to me and you
That's the true meaning of this time
Oh this time

He is the
He is the reason for the season
He is the light that shines on our lives
The baby Jesus born in God's grace
So we all might rejoice on this day

He is the reason for the season
He is the light that shines on our lives
The baby Jesus born in God's grace
So we all might rejoice on this day
He is the reason for the season

The Savior truly is what Christmas is about. If you think about it "Christ" mas. It is the time to celebrate the Savior's birth. This Christmas season we really need to think about the true meaning of Christmas and not worry about what we are getting as gifts. This year I have asked my mom for two different pictures. One of Christ and one of the Mount Timpanogas Temple. The Savior really is the reason for this season. We need to center our lives on Christ.

Christmas!

I just love the holiday traditions that we have at our house. I love some of the old traditions and the new ones that we have picked up over time.
some of our many traditions are and how they came about:

1. Every year on Christmas eve we get to open our present from my Grandma Kay. We know what it is every time as it is what we have gotten every year. She always gives us a new pair of pajamas. We also usually get some sort of fuzzy warm socks. She has been doing this for as long as I can remember. I love it because by time Christmas comes around I could use a new pair.

2. Every year my mom gets us a new ornament. They usually have to do with something that we have done that year or a vacation that we went on. I remember one of the ornaments I got one year was a John Deere riding lawn mower. I had asked my parents to  get a riding lawn mower cause we had such a large yard and I hated to mow it. So that was the riding mower that I got. (They have since gotten a really size riding lawn mower, of course after I had left.)

3. A train around the Christmas tree. This tradition didn't start until my Grandma married my grandpa Reed. He always had a train around his tree every year. I would start on one side of the fire place, pass in front of it and then go around the tree. We loved that train. Once he passed away my grandma Kay bought a train.

I believe traditions are what connects families and makes the memories. I have been thinking about my Grandma Fran (5 years in November of this year) and my Grandpa Reed (12 years this December). They have both since passed on. But they  are part of many memories and traditions. I am so thankful that they were a part of my life. They truly have had an impacted on my life and made me a better person.

Family!

So i have really gotten into family history lately. I first really got into as I was getting ready to go through the temple for myself. I wanted to find all these names so that I could do them every time I went. I finished those names in begining of July. I have finally gotten some new ones that I need to go and do. But what I am really wanting to know about is my Ensign side of the family. I don't really know all that match about my name sake.

Here is as far back as I know:

Alexis Lee Ensign
Craig Allen Ensign- Father
Donald Harker Ensign- Grandpa
Clarence Wesley Ensign- Great Grandpa
I don't know anything about my ancestors leading up to: Gracie Free Ensign- Great Great Great Grandma

The only reason I really know anything about her is I made contact with one of my cousin's who had a pamphlet on Gracie's parents. They really had an amazing life. They were some of the first pioneers here in Utah. They came in the same company and Brigham Young. The first place they had their land here in Salt Lake is where Liberty Park now sits. Gracie Free married Frank Victor Ensign April 15, 1893 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had eleven children which included my Great Grandpa Clarence Wesley Ensign.

I just feel this strong desire to know more about my name sake the Ensign's. I feel it truly is a shame that I don't know anyone really besides my immediate family members. I do know a couple of my grandpa's siblings but haven't seen them in a very long time. I think part of the reason i don't know much about the Ensign side of the family is that they aren't members. There are a couple of us that are: my parents and siblings, My cousin Kimberly, husband and kids. She also has a sister who is a member.

One of the sayings my Great Great Great Great Grandma Mary (Gracie's mom) use to say is "if a thing is worth doing at all, it is worth doing well." This is so true. I am truly grateful to learn this little part of my family that I have. I love my family!

First real snow storm!

I am not really into a huge fan of snow. But I am not use to having to clear snow off of my car. When I lived at my parents house I got to  park in the garage. It snowed all day yesterday and was snowing for a bite today still. It didn't help that i am sick when I had to clean my car off today. It really wiped me out but the snow was pretty deep. Guess I am going to have to get use to cleaning snow off my car.

Prophets yesterday and today!

“How sweet is the assurance, how comforting is the peace that come from the knowledge that if we marry right and live right, our relationship will continue, notwithstanding the certainty of death and the passage of time. Men may write love songs and sing them. They may yearn and hope and dream. But all of this will be only a romantic longing unless there is an exercise of authority that transcends the powers of time and death.”
–Gordon B. Hinckley, “The Marriage That Endures”, Ensign, Jul 2003, 2–7.

“It is not just that the Book of Mormon teaches us truth, through it indeed does that.  It is not just that the Book of Mormon bears testimony of Christ, though it indeed does that, too.  But there is something more.  There is a power in the book which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book… You will find greater power to resist temptation.  You will find the power to avoid deception.  You will find the power to stay on the strait and narrow path.  The scriptures are called “the words of life” (D&C 84:85), and nowhere is that more true than it is of the Book of Mormon.  When you begin to hunger and thirst after those words, you will find life in greater and greater abundance.”
President Ezra Taft Benson, October General Conference 1986

"Each of us is a runner in the race of life. Comforting is the fact that there are many runners. Reassuring is the knowledge that our eternal Scorekeeper is understanding. Challenging is the truth that each must run. But you and I do not run alone. That vast audience of family, friends, and leaders will cheer our courage, will applaud our determination as we rise from our stumblings and pursue our goal". - Thomas S. Monson, “Never Give Up,” Ensign, September 1994

I am so thankful that we have prophets today and in the past. to guide and help us find our way back to our Heavenly Father. They are there to guide and keep us on the straight and narrow path. These prophets whose quotes I have shared were great leaders and guided by Heavenly Father on  what we need to hear and when we needed to hear it. All the prophets have been guided by the Holy Ghost. We to can be guided by the Holy Ghost. When you pray listen for the answer to your prayers.

15 years later..........................

15 years ago I met one of my best friends. I never really had a friend that I was close to before and that I could share everything with. Lyndsi "Bromley" Bennion has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. She has  been there for me through every heart break and for the really exciting moments.
It just doesn't seem like it could possibly be 15 years ago that we met. But the one thing I do know is that she was Heaven sent to me. Heavenly Father knew that she was the kind of friend I needed. Even though she is married and has a kid, she is still there for me. I just hope that I have been that same friend to her that she has been to me. I  love her like one of my sisters. She is an angel. President Spencer W. Kimball said it the best, "God does notice us, and He watches over us. But it is usually through another person the He meets our needs."
Lyndsi was an answer to my prayers. I had just moved to a new city and was going to be starting at a new school and didn't know anyone. I remember she came over and asked if I wanted to see her puppies. She lived in the new neighborhood that we had just moved to. Thankful I met her right before school started and we ended up having the same teacher.

I am so happy that we have been so close through the years and that we have remand so close. I am truly greatful for her. Love ya Lynz!

Back to school!

I have decided that I want to go back to school. Of course I didn't decide this until about the week before school started. So i am planning on returning in January. I am just going to finish my generals at Salt Lake Community College. Then from there I may go to the U cause  I can get half tuition since my dad works there. But I am planning on going into Social Work. I want to work with family's and kids. I guess working at the daycare has shown me what my interests can be and that I really want to make the difference in someones life. What better way to do so then influencing a child's life. I love working with kids and always thought I would be a teacher but didn't really see myself as teaching. Here is a great way to work with kids and help them hopefully for good.

Stressful places

Ever been in some place that has been really scary or just plain nerve wracking. Well I have had a couple of those places in my life. Well one of those happened July 26th. I got off work and stopped off at a store for five minutes and when I came out my car wouldn't start. So I called my cousin and he came and jumpstarted my car for me. He told me I needed to go get my battery checked out.I went to the dealership but they had already closed. So I went to auto zone and as soon as I turned my car off it died. So I got jump started again and decided to go get my dads car since they were out of town.
So I was driving on the freeway and at 90th south my car just dies. I am in the center lane of traffic. I had no hazard lights. Thankfully a car stopped behind me and turned his lights on. He got out of his car and came up to me telling me that he is going to push my car to the side of the road with his car. We get into the fast lane but he couldn't get any cars to stop in the Hov lane. Finally a car pulled out of the fast lane and stopped so he could get me off the road.
I had already called the highway patrol men and the tow truck. The highway patrolmen told me he was going to get another patrolmen to slow down traffic so that he could push me off the freeway.
It was crazy. Tons of cars passing by and then not a single car. So he pushed me off the 90th south exit and off to a side road where I waited fir Trent and Lyndsi to come and get me. I had been talking to Lynz about having to have been jumped started. She told me to call if I needed help. So when my car died I called her.
They brought me some dinner and then waited a bit for the tow truck to come. They had their little boy Owen with them who thought it was so cool when the tow truck was getting my car on the bed of the truck.
So it turns out it was just my battery. But it still was scary to have my car die in the freeway. My parents were out of town so I didn't have them for help. So thankful to the kind stranger who stopped to help and for Trent and Lyndsi. I am so blessed.

Move to Salt Lake!

So it's official. I have made the move to salt lake. I am living with my cousin Ashlie again. We lived together in price. I have only met one of my other roommates Alex. I am so happy to not have to commute anymore. Now i am fifteen minutes from work instead of forty five minutes to an hour. Lovin life!

Being an example of the believers!

So this last week at work I had a really neat experience with one of the agents that works for us. She had e-mailed asking if I was mad at her cause I guess I had sounded frustrated with her. I had had some frustrating agents before her. So I guess I may have sounded frustrated with her. I had let her know I wasn't. I also thanked her for calling me out on it and  then we got talking and she said that she didn't know what faith I was but that she believed that god takes care of all of us. I let her know that I was Mormon she then told me she was going to be having he missionaries over and was asking what they drink since we don't drink coffee. She also asked if they would like cupcakes. So I told he water or milk. Then we got talking about how I had a brother who was serving right now and that we got to skype with you on Christmas and mothers day. She couldn't believe that we only got to talk with you twice a year. She said she has a son that doesn't talk with her very often. She also said that she believed that the missionaries were doing amazing things and that they come home better men. She also told me she was going to pray for for my brother. This really was an awakening moment for me. I realized that I truly need to be an example and be more open to sharing my beliefs with others. We have brothers and sisters out there just searching for the truth. We can truly be an instrument in the hands of God. We just need to be praying for opportunities to help him in our daily lives. I love this gospel. I am so thankful for the comfort and guidance I can receive in my life through prayer and scripture study. My we all strive to be instruments in Gods hands!

Hike, EMTs, Search & Resue and an ambulance!

If That title wasn't gripping enough for you wait until you hear my story. I had gotten invited to go hiking to Horsetail falls in Alpine with a group of friends from my ward. Hillary Waldron, Ben Austin, Abe Austin, Christian Austin, Imma, Kaory and Shelby. The hike up wasn't too bad. just very steep and rocky. So we went up to the upper falls and sat down and took some pictures and then decided we wanted to go down to the lower falls.

Going to the lower falls is difficult cause you have to climb down all these rocks. Shelby and I were a head of the group. We came to this rock that we needed to climb down. Shelby had already gone down it and I had crouched down to go down when my left foot slipped and my right foot stayed. I twisted my ankle. Or so I thought that was all I had done. Cause all of the sudden I had a shooting pain in my knee. I knew something was wrong and that I wasn't going to be able to walk out of there. The rest of the group finally caught up with us and Jacob moved me to a flatter place and out of the trail. He gave me some Advil for the pain. He then gave me two options for how I was getting off the mountain. He could either carry me or call emergency. I opted for the second option. I knew that the trail up was very rocky and I was afraid of him losing his step and dropping me. So we called emergency. This happened about 6:30pm May 12th. Right after it happened the Austin's gave me a blessing. They went up to see if there was anywhere that life flight could land. Went they got back they said that they had seen people on horses and tried to get their attention.  Life flight came but they couldn't find a flat enough place to land and they don't do the basket when its getting dark if they don't have to. So they left. While we were waiting for the EMT to come up we were joking about whether or not they would be attractive. So the first EMT makes it to me at about 7:30. He gets there and is starting to give me an IV. Imma of course decides to ask him if he is single. His response was I have five kids and a mortgage you don't want this.

The first EMT had seen the couple on the horse and they had offered to take him up. I was told he said no and kept running and then turned around and said yes. So he and the guy got on the horses and took off on a dead run. leaving the guys wife to keep running up with the other EMT. So the guy with the horses comes down to where I am and I said hey I know you. It had been Kolby and Amy Rollins up there riding. They use to be our neighbors and they keep their horses in the field next to us. They had been talking about taking me down on horse. The EMT asks me if I am allergic to anything and I said yes horses. So we waited for search and rescue to come up with the gurney. So while we were up there waiting for everyone to come Shelby had called mom and dad and told them what had happened. They came up to the trail head and this is what they saw when they got there.

Mom did say it was a little disheartening to show up and see police, ambulances, fire trucks, ambulance and 30 search and rescue cars.

So when search and rescue finally got there they got this gurney setup. it had just one wheel underneath and then guys would carry it on. There was one and my head and feet. Then two or three on each side. to get me on the gurney there were a couple of guys holding up the bottom so it would be level while they strapped me in. They of course had to pull me up the part I had fallen down. It was so cold up there, while I was still sitting there I had lots of jackets and a blanket on me. While I was on the gurney I had a blanket and a down sleeping bag.

The journey down to the ambulance seemed to take forever. There were a couple of times when the guys would trip over a rock and drop part of the gurney. kind of freaky. They would also but the sleeping bag over my face when the branches got low. They had Kolby and Amy out in front scouting out the best trail to take me down. They had guys with ropes at the front and back to help keep the gurney from sliding down.
When we got to the bottom and I saw my dad I started crying again. (my mom said that it was killing him that he couldn't hike up the trail to get to me. Cause of his MS he couldn't hike to me or they would be carrying him out also.) We got to the ambulance at about midnight.

So then they moved me from one gurney to the other one that goes in the ambulance. My dad rode in the ambulance with me. We got to the hospital and they moved me from one gurney to a bed. They put me in a room. They said that they would come and get me for x-rays. They asked if I needed anything for pain. I had said no. But as soon as the nurse left I decided I needed some. I pushed the call button and asked for it. They were taking forever to bring it to me. Dad got frustrated and went out to the desk and told them to bring me the pain medicine. I got it right away. After they gave it to me they took me in to x-rays.  When the morphine started to take affect I fell asleep. I woke up while the doctor was talking with my parents. My dad told me the knee wasn't broken. I fell back to sleep. While we were in the hospital I said Happy Mother's day mom. I am sure she could of come up with a better way to spend Mother's day.

I had just dislocated my knee. My dad said the injury I have is common in football players. It is when they are crouched down and get hit. In my case it was crouched down and slipped. The nurse came in and gave me a knee brace and then had me test out the crutches. Not a good option when you are drugged up.

So I finally got home from the hospital at about four. I went straight to sleep. So I had a great story to tell Nate we we spoke to him on Sunday.

Cancer Walk 2012!

This year my co-workers and I did the cancer walk. The day before the race we had a potluck and made our tutu's. Our team was the tutu's for ta ta's. As you can see in the pictures even the boys wore tutu's.  We did the 5k walk. Susie ended up the 5k even though she wasn't planning to. She and her two kids were only going to do the mile.

Hillary Waldron and her work were doing the race also. We decided that we should stay in Salt Lake the night before since we didn't want to walk up supper early the next morning to drive up. So we met my cousin
Ashlie at City Creek were we got some dinner. We also went to Tiffany's and looked around. We then went and got some chocolate from Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory. We called it our diamonds and chocolate night. After we went back to her apartment and watched Extremely Loud and Incredible close. Of course I fell asleep during it. It was a fun weekend.

I love to see the Temple!

I have always loved this primary song, but now it has a new meaning for me. I will be going to the Mount Timpanogas Temple on March 24th and receiving my Endowments. I am super excited to receive these blessing.

I love to see the Temple!

I love to see the temple. I'm going there someday to
feel the Holy Spirit, to listen and to pray. For the
temple is a house of God, A place of love and beauty. I'll prepare
myself while I am young, This is my scared duty.

I love to see the temple. I'll go inside someday. I'll
covenant with my father; I'll promise to obey. For the
Temple is is a holy place where we are sealed together. As a
child of God, I've learned this truth: A family is forever.

Time Flies!

Okay so  on the 17th of this month my Brother Nate will have been on his mission for 6 months. I had always heard that the time goes by slowly while they are out. I don't think so. I think the time has gone by really fast. It is so fun to get his weekly letters and hate when a holiday falls around his P day. Then we have to wait an extra day to get his letter. I am so proud of my little brother.

First snow of the season!

Wow today we finally got some snow. so glad I bought new tires in November getting ready for all that snow we should of had before now. Hopefully this doesn't mean that it is going to snow later this year still. I love snow! but only for so long. I would like to be able to have a spring.
